Sunday 20th August

We went to “Kohi-Kan” cafe for breakfast.  On the news that morning, it said that the temperature was set to be 37 plus for that day, so I wasn’t looking forward to it at all.  After breakfast, we decided to pick up some last items from the Baby goods store.  We managed to find a padded seat for the high chair that we “picked up” from the streetImage, and it was only about 10 pounds, as opposed to the 40 pounds that we’d expected to have to pay.  I’m glad we didn’t throw the whole thing away again.  Yusuke was feeling a bit weird about giving our baby a chair that we’d found on the road, but I didn’t really have that much of a problem with it.  To me, whether it’s from a second-hand shop or put out for rubbish, if it’s safe and clean, then it’s fine.  Now we have a new cushion, it’s much better.  We opted for the light blue one, as they only had pink, blue or white, and I don’t want to go overboard on the pink..Why don’t they do other colours???

We searched around for a changing mat, but couldn’t really find one.  I’m sure a towel on the floor or the high chair (that can be low too) looks to be a perfect height for changing nappies.  We have the moses basket ready now for the first two or three months, and are thinking about having the baby sleep in the futon next to me after that.  I now have a full double futon to myself, as I kicked Yusuke out because he kept elbowing me!  The futon is pretty thin, and there is nothing else in the room, so it should be quite safe (even though there’s been a lot of controversy in the U.K. about squashing the baby, etc.  It’s quite common here for families to sleep in the same room, so we’ll have to see how it goes for a while first.  If it doesn’t work out, we’ll be renting a cot.

We are both getting excited about the baby now.  Time seems to have gone so slowly, but then suddenly gone so fast, so it’s exciting and daunting and all the rest of it.  We saw some really soft and cute fluffy baby suits in Baby Gap the other day, which set us off getting excited again!  I really envy Yusuke though.  All he has to do is be excited…
